A Comparison of in Vivo Knee Kinematics during a Leg Press Activity between Acl Deficient an D Medial Osteoarthritic Knees

چکیده
INTRODUCTION: A long-term effect of chronic anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) deficiency is development of degenerative changes in the knee [1]. Andriacchi et al. [2] noted cartilage homeostasis would not be maintained by abnormal kinematics after ACL rupture and cartilage degeneration would initiate. However, no study to date has compared kinematics between ACL deficient knees and primary osteoarthritic (OA) knees. Therefore, the aim of this in vivo study was to determine if a difference in knee kinematics exists between normal, ACL deficient and primary medial OA knees. Using a leg press activity, we can examine semi weight-bearing lower limbs kinematics without complicating compensatory motions such as trunk lean, which occurs in squatting and gait.

متن کاملA Preliminary In Vivo Assessment of Anterior Cruciate Ligament-Deficient Knee Kinematics With the KneeM Device: A New Method to Assess Rotatory Laxity Using Open MRI.
BACKGROUND Methods of objectively measuring rotational knee laxity are either experimental or difficult to use in daily practice. A new method has been developed to quantitatively assess rotatory laxity using an open MRI system and new tool, the KneeM device. PURPOSE/HYPOTHESIS To perform a preliminary evaluation of a novel knee rotation measurement device to assess knee kinematics during fle...
متن کاملMagnetic resonance imaging analysis of kinematics in osteoarthritic knees.
Kinematics in osteoarthritic knees may be impeding efforts to reproduce "normal" knee kinematics in the prosthetic knee. Fourteen subjects with unilateral symptomatic knee osteoarthritis performed a supine leg press from 0 degrees to 90 degrees flexion against a 150-N load. The tibiofemoral contact pattern was recorded for both knees using sagittal T1-weighted magnetic resonance imaging. Severi...
متن کاملAssociation between abnormal kinematics and degenerative change in knees of people with chronic anterior cruciate ligament deficiency: a magnetic resonance imaging study.
Progressive degeneration of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) deficient knee may be partly due to chondral trauma at the time of ACL rupture and repeat episodes of subluxation, but also due to aberrant kinematics altering the wear pattern at the tibiofemoral interface. The hypothesis that altered kinematics, represented by the tibiofemoral contact pattern, would be associated with articular ...
